For the last few months my waking life has been completely taken over with putting my first online Brand from the Heart programme together, which you might know is the core work I do.
Come to think of it, it wasn’t just my waking life that was full of ideas and inspiration for how best to distill everything I know into just six 90 minute modules, it filled my dreams and woke me up most nights too! it was all pretty intense!!!
There is a technique that some business coaches tell you to use call ‘Building the plane as you fly it’, which means that, rather than having your programme, your book or your workshop already planned and written before you sell it, that you sell the outline concept first and then use the pressure of a deadline to get you focused.
I think this can also be called ‘flying by the seat of your pants’, or a leap of faith, but the magical thing that happens when you do this is that the dreaded ‘procrastination monster’ has no place in your head, and you also learn that, if you create a value-laden programme, it doesn’t matter if it’s not perfect! Your clients will be so into the content of what you are teaching and sharing that they probably won’t even notice a few imperfections as long as they are getting the outcomes that you promised to deliver.
For a perfectionist like me, this was a real revelation!
Richard Branson reportedly did this when he first got Virgin Airlines off the ground (literally)!
He sold tickets for his first flight without having a plane to fly his passengers! And what he did was, after making money on the advanced ticket sales, he chartered a plane and then plastered a Virgin Airlines banner on the side – Brilliant!
So nothing like a deadline, and commitment to your clients and customers to make sure you get that project or goal completed.
I can’t say this was a comfortable experience – not by a long shot! But ‘energy flows where attention goes’, and when your desire, focus and intent are so strong and clear – which this method enhances hugely – the universe conspires to help you achieve what you’ve set your heart on.
Another thing that’s seems to happen with this method is that because you get so focused and get the momentum going you find yourself in a flow where divine inspiration seems to come through you. It comes less from your head and more from within. Much of the content that I put into this programme definitely came through me rather than from anything else I’d already written or taught in the past. At times it was like someone else was writing the material! The way the modules work so well together give an extremely deep and very complete journey, and I couldn’t have planned it so perfectly if I’d had six months to do it, never mind six weeks!
I think working this way certainly needs the right mindset to start with. It’s not for the faint-hearted! You need to have a clear desire in your heart that you’re passionate about delivering, and you need to work through any self doubts and limiting beliefs so that you don’t sabotage yourself, but once you’ve started there’s no going back, and there’s no time to dwell on the negative head talk. It’s like leaping into the void and trusting that some force bigger than you will hold you up!
Despite the lack of sleep and not having much time for anything else in life for a couple of months, it was really exciting – like paddling down rapids. I feel like I’ve benefitted hugely from the experience. My confidence has grown as my clients reported back their shifts, new levels of clarity, and confidence in their own value, and it was worth every sleepless night to hear that! After all, hearing that people’s lives are changed for the better is what it’s all about, right?!!
But I’m pleased to have got to the calm flow again and I can have a rest before the next set of exciting rapids comes into view!
If you’ve had a similar experience or have any questions or comments I’d love to hear from you. And if you enjoyed reading this post then please share it.
Much love

Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or
go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely confused ..
Any recommendations? Thank you!
Hi Mattie, thanks for the feedback!
If I was to give advice I would say just write from the heart, be willing to be open and aim to serve through sharing what’s worked or hasn’t worked for you, or what lights you up, etc (depends on your passion).
I’m certainly not the best person to ask about blogging platforms as I’m not techy at all. My blog is WordPress and it’s what my website is built on. I’ve found it fine to use. I haven’t tried any others. I would Google business owners who teach blogging – Corrina Gordon-Barnes might be a good person to ask – http://youinspireme.co.uk/
